Jean led a research project for the Learning and Skills Network (LSN) 2003 to look at access into further educational facilities throughout England, concluding with writing guidance for colleges on access audit commissioning and funding applications.
Best Practice – Action Research in FE
Jean was engaged by LSN as Project Lead and Expert Advisor on research project for Access to Premises for 2003-2005. A key aim of this project was the development of Best Practice for dissemination across the sector.
Fire Egress Strategies for Disabled People
Jean conducted research into emergency egress strategies for people with impaired mobility requiring physical assistance.
Jean was a member of the Steering Group Panel for “Occupying Buildings Sustainably”, a government research initiative led by Faber Maunsell and Johnson Controls and contributed the accessibility information to the database.
Sensory Access in Higher Education
Engaged by LSN as lead consultant for buildings on a research initiative by the Equalities Challenge Unit to investigate sensory access in Higher Education Environments – this involved assessments of three university campuses for access by students and staff with hearing or sight impairments or within the autistic spectrum; following the site visits and reports, a general guidance document was prepared.
Jean continues to take an active interest into research initiatives and is an active member of the Inclusive Hotels Design Working Group.
