Aim
Learn about disability awareness and the principles and practicalities of inclusive design in the built environment.
This expert-led online course is a great starting point for anyone wanting to deepen their understanding of access and inclusive design in the built environment.
Course outline
The course will be delivered on Zoom and covers the following areas:
- Disability awareness
- Inclusive design and access awareness
- Overview of the Equality Act 2010
- Types of discrimination and reasonable adjustments
- Overview of planning policy and Building Regulations relating to access
This course is a useful introduction to inclusive design for anyone wanting to improve their knowledge of accessibility in the built environment, including those those looking towards possible future NRAC accreditation. This is CAE’s first live online course, and has been developed to give participants a grounding in disability and access awareness, and the key principles of inclusive design.

About the trainer
Marcos Frangos is passionate about inclusion, demonstrated through a career that began with a BSc in architecture and early work supporting disabled pupils in mainstream schools. As one of the first 
NRAC-registered Access Consultants, Marcos managed a pioneering Local Authority Access Team that facilitated collaborative access audits between built environment professionals in a large shire county and local district Access Groups – the first of its kind in local government. Marcos was an active member of the advisory panel to government for the early editions of the British Standard BS8300 on Accessibility BS8300, and contributed to Sport England and advisory panels to the DfEE developing best-practice design guidance for inclusion in mainstream schools. Marcos has delivered inclusive design training with CAE for several years, empowering professionals from a range of sectors with the knowledge and skills essential to create environments that are truly inclusive.
