Located in the London area of Limehouse, the Half Moon Theatre is a vibrant venue for young audiences housed within a historic Victorian building.
CAE helped the theatre by carrying out an access audit which was essential for their application to the City Bridge Foundation for funding to take forward the recommendations within the audit. Helen Kane, an access consultant with CAE, conducted the audit and commented: “We collaborated with the theatre to explore diverse opportunities for visitors and staff, suggesting ways to enhance inclusive design and eliminate barriers to access.”
The theatre has successfully secured funding for a new passenger lift and a state-of-the-art underfloor hearing loop system—an audio induction loop designed for users of hearing aids. As part of this upgrade, the auditorium flooring has been completely renewed, and the virtual tour is now live on the theatre’s website.
Jackie Eley, Administrative Director at Half Moon Theatre, said: “We used insights from the access audit to secure funding and implemented all of CAE’s recommendations, with the exception of the quiet space, which we currently lack the capacity for. The audit was invaluable, highlighting aspects we had previously overlooked, particularly regarding neurodiversity.”
