Aim
This course is for anyone wanting to learn the technical standards for wheelchair accessible housing in Approved Document M (AD M), Volume 1 Category 3, and the key differences between the design of ‘wheelchair adaptable’ and ‘wheelchair accessible’ dwellings.
This course benefits a diverse range of professionals, including architects, access professionals, occupational therapists, designers, building control officers, planners, developers and housing providers.

The training is from 10:30am to 4:00pm, and is delivered via Zoom.

Course outline
The programme has an interactive workshop format and covers:
- History, current standards and policy overview
- The roles of planning and building control authorities
- AD M Category 1 and 2 overviews
- Technical requirements of AD M Category 3 and the difference between ‘wheelchair adaptable’ and
‘wheelchair accessible’ dwellings - Group discussions and exercises

About the trainer
Vin is an NRAC-accredited access consultant with a BSc in architecture, and has worked in access and inclusion for over 25 years. His consultancy work spans a wide range of projects from small community initiatives to landmark developments including the Eastwick & Sweetwater housing developments, Historic Royal Palaces, Somerset House, and the London Olympic Aquatics Centre and Park.
Vin is passionate about delivering training that empowers professionals and stakeholders with the knowledge and understanding needed to create truly inclusive, well-designed environments.
