Homes England is the non-departmental public body that funds new affordable housing in England. In 2018/19 CAE worked with Homes England to provide training across their five regional offices to raise awareness of equality and inclusive housing among their staff.
CAE delivered a mix of half day to two day training and delegates included teams from care and supported housing, planners, architects and wider staff. As training partners with Homes England, CAE are supporting their strategic plan to put equality and diversity at the heart of their work and in meeting the housing needs of diverse communities.
CAE’s worked with Homes England’s Affordable Housing Team which is responsible for managing the programmes that in turn provide funding streams. One of the programmes that Homes England deliver on behalf of the Department of Health is called the Care and Support Specialist Housing Fund (CASSH). This new strategic plan includes funding to develop new affordable homes, including accessible homes for disabled people.
Christine Hill, Senior Specialist Affordable Housing Delivery, said of the training:
“Getting to grips with nationally described space standards, furniture layouts and wheelchair accessibility layouts with CAE…. I can put my new skills to use!”
