The Centre for Accessible Environments (CAE) is launching a new training course which will help housing professionals grasp the principal changes in the wheelchair accessible housing standards in England.
The Accessible Housing: Category 3 – Wheelchair User Dwellings course opens on Thursday 17 December 2015. The training focuses on Category 3, the revised Part M (4) of the Building Regulations, which includes new accessible standards for the first time from October 2015. This course will enable delegates to gain a comprehensive understanding of the technical differences in the standards, key criteria and their application for all housing sizes and types
Lead by highly experienced trainers with over 10 years’ experience in accessible housing, building control, planning and occupational therapy, the course is aimed at designers, building control officers, planners, developers and housing providers. Delegates will take part in an interactive workshop, with practical exercises and opportunities to pose questions throughout.
Jean Hewitt, Director of the Centre for Accessible Environments said:
“The new wheelchair accessible housing standards are now in the Building Regulations for the first time and a variety of sectors are seeking to fully understand the technical requirements and when they apply.
“Building accessible new homes is increasingly important as the population ages and the unmet demand from younger disabled people grows, so an expert knowledge of the new standards arrangements will be vital for a range of professionals in their day to day work.
“This CAE training course enables organisations and individuals to extend their expertise in order to help deliver the wheelchair accessible homes of the future.”
The all-day course takes place at Holyer House, London EC4A 3EB on 17 December 2015 and monthly throughout 2016.
CAE members can book their discounted place for £270 plus VAT (non-members £300 plus VAT).
