The Centre for Accessible Environments (CAE) is today (6 May 2015) launching a refreshed brand and website as it welcomes a new chapter for the organisation under Director, Jean Hewitt.
CAE, now the consultancy division of of Habinteg, will be building on the organisation’s excellent reputation as a leading authority on access and inclusion in the built environment. A brand new training programme will continue and strengthen CAE’s role in equipping professionals with the knowledge, research and consultancy support they need to make great places that are accessible for all.
Jean Hewitt is a Chartered Surveyor by background who has specialised in inclusive design, management and training for many years and has a holistic approach to access. Jean’s recent publications include the BIFM’s Access and Inclusion Good Practice Guide and the English Federation of Disability Sport’s Guide for Sports Clubs.
CAE has refreshed its brand to reflect these changes whilst retaining their mission to help secure a built environment that is usable by everyone, including disabled and older people. The CAE’s new website has been redeveloped to assist access professionals, clients and members in accessing their latest research, consultancy services, projects, news and training courses.
Jean Hewitt, Director of the Centre for Accessible Environments, said:
“Having been a longstanding member of CAE and a fan of their work over many years, it gives me great pleasure to be leading the organisation. I’m passionate about inclusive design and determined to bring this enthusiasm to CAE’s mission as part of the Habinteg group – a natural fit between inclusion in housing and the built environment. This is an exciting and challenging time for accessibility and we really have an opportunity to get access moving.”
Paul Gamble, Habinteg Chief Executive, said:
“We’re delighted to formally welcome CAE into the Habinteg group. Having worked with them for some years this adjustment gives us a strong future at the heart of accessible and inclusive neighbourhoods, from streets and homes to the wider public realm. Jean has already made a big impact and the refreshed brand and website represent a statement of intent for the future. Making the case for access, informing policy and influencing the wider debate for inclusion in the UK has never been more relevant and together we are well-placed to achieve our aspirations for a barrier-free society.”
