Wheelchair Accessible Housing

Aim

This course is for anyone wanting to learn the technical standards for wheelchair accessible housing in Approved Document M (AD M), Volume 1 Category 3, and the key differences between the design of ‘wheelchair adaptable’ and ‘wheelchair accessible’ dwellings.

This course benefits a diverse range of professionals, including architects, access professionals, occupational therapists, designers, building control officers, planners, developers and housing providers.

Course dates

The training is from 10:30am to 4:00pm, and is delivered via Zoom.

Course outline

The programme has an interactive workshop format and covers:

  • History, current standards and policy overview
  • The roles of planning and building control authorities
  • AD M Category 1 and 2 overviews
  • Technical requirements of AD M Category 3 and the difference between ‘wheelchair adaptable’ and
    ‘wheelchair accessible’ dwellings
  • Group discussions and exercises

About the trainerTrainer Vin Goodwin

Vin Goodwin is an NRAC-accredited access consultant with over 25 years’ experience in inclusive design and a BSc in Architecture. He has worked on projects ranging from community initiatives to major developments such as Historic Royal Palaces, Somerset House, and the London Olympic Park. Vin delivers CAE courses on topics including Design & NeurodiversityWheelchair Accessible Housing, and Access Auditing and Equality Act
